My kid is like flowing water :-)

  • May. 2nd, 2008 at 7:10 AM
Atul candy
Parenting a pre-schooler can sometimes be a patience-stretching exercise.  Like day before yesterday, when Atul decided that his sole task for the day was testing his boundaries, which meant I was constantly at his back giving him countdowns and threatening to withdraw rewards. He was pushing and pushing his limits and I just couldn't keep up. I gave up. I heaved heavily and closed my eyes. Atul, of course,  immediately knew that I was displeased with him and that's the last thing he wanted (I have to be happy with him, all the time. Period. ). He asadu vazhingified (not sure I can come up with a translation, roughly it means an expression out of guilt,  with the intention to win me back) and said with a sheepish grin, "Mommy, I am a troublesome kid. I am very naughty". All my repressed frustration just vanished into thin air and I was laughing away to glory. Oh, the things that he can be proud of!

When I narrated this to Arvind, my wise husband threw a nugget of wisdom - Atul is like  flowing water. It is better to go with the flow than to resist it.  And for the record, I agree :-)

oh i agree Suman, children only resist more when we try to force them to stop, they've to do it on their own will, dont they? Tough luck as I am quite impatient....love this place you have here, thank you for bringing me over so I got to see your space...will be back for sure from now onwards...

I must thank you. I have had a couple of visitors through your blog today. I am so excited... it feels like I am forming a support system of my own in the blogosphere.

Just so that my post doesn't mislead you, I am definitely not one of those parents that has infinite patience with their kids. But I am learning, and hope to be there one day.

Shy, thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment. Thrilled to have you here. All the more, since our kiddies are of the same age group. Atul's b'day is in Nov. How about your little sunshine? Looking forward to swapping anecdotes in the days to come.

Shy, we have a lot of commonalities. I feel like asking a lot of questions - when is your b'day, where do you live etc. But not in this forum, probably sometime via email.

We all had a blast. My brother and I are not identical at all. We are different in so many different ways (physically and otherwise). Thanks for asking, have a great day.

:-), Very inspiring and very true also. I myself have experienced it several times. Life is all about moving on with hall the positiveness instead of getting ourselves caught up in something thats not working out. By the way would love to have look at u r book of proverbs, I also did it only difference being I never shared it with anyone, only to get all the appreciation that I have said something very great:-). My brother always caught me and would say "don't come with some dialogue that u have read somewhere".
